This IB Geography Course has been tailored specifically for teachers and students of the IBO Standard and Higher level Geography Course . There is comprehensive coverage of the three core topics of Population, Resources and Development together with a number of the Option Topics. The daily class notes (available as overhead masters and as PowerPoint slides) contain a wealth of information allowing students to build up a broad knowledge of case examples that in turn provide the scaffolding for deep understanding of the geographic concepts. Special attention is given to the treatment of statistics and other skills such as mapping and sketching since these are central skills required in both the written examination papers and the internal assessment. Each Chapter for example, contains a degree of map interpretation and application of a statistical test or similar. In addition to this a final chapter investigates ideas that are suitable for internal assessment and concentrates on the specific steps used in hypothesis testing. all Chapters (which cover either a core or option topic) are precisely aligned with the IBO syllabus and include classroom activities such as role playing, note taking, map reading, use of GIS, debating, research activities and problem solving. The class notes and the Student Activity Book contains a wide range of photographs, flow charts, diagrams and maps that can be adapted for use in multiple ways. There is a range of assessment opportunities including homework activities, research essays, practical work as well as formal testing in the style of the IBO Geography examinations. Students are able to apply their understanding of class notes to specific tasks set out in the Student Activity Bookand teachers have access to specific marking criteria which follows current thinking in the IBO.
