Ecology

by Randolph Femmer

ONE SEMESTER COURSE MATERIALS

This richly-illustrated ecology course treats students to a host of labs, demonstrations, riddles, and activities such as “observing and measuring the invisible,” “the best scholar-ship there ever was,” and “the lithospheric deposition of CO 2.” Students will employ in-genious separation technologies, analyze the numeric implications of a billion homework questions, and build their own density stratifications in an aqueous system. Class notes, graphing, word scrambles, reading activities, and worksheets help students meet dozens of national, state, and local science standards. Finally, all the intellectual rigor of ecology is also here, including biomes, energy budgets, energy pathways, succession, species in-teractions, scientific notation, and evapotranspiration. Lessons and workbook activities also introduce the carbon cycle, biodiversity, rain shadows, bioaccumulation, differential solar heating, conservation biology, and a host of other topics. Finally, course materials feature daily lesson plans, labs, demonstrations, a pacing guide, tests with answer keys, a student workbook, and alignments with a host of adopted science standards.

Table of Contents:

  1. Ecological Interactions, Buffers, and Feedbacks
  2. Energetics, Ecological Pyramids, and Biological Productivity
  3. Seasons, Temperature, and Evapotranspiration
