Computer Applications and the Internet

by Dom Festante

ONE SEMESTER COURSE MATERIALS

The role of the 21st century educator has changed dramatically. To achieve success in the real world, students must be comfortable in technology skills. With that in mind, this course is designed to integrate two of the most popular and widely used means of collecting and presenting ideas and information - the Internet and the Microsoft© Office suite of products. Throughout the course, students will use the Internet to gather information and learn the skills necessary to use and to present this information with all four components of Microsoft© Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to unlock the secrets of the Invisible Web, understand the importance of documenting sources to avoid plagiarism, develop strategies that will yield the information desired
while decreasing the time spent searching, sharpen their writing skills and techniques, calculate data accurately and quickly, share their findings in a multimedia presentation and to grasp the concept of a database as they collect, collate, store, manipulate and present vast amounts of information. At the end, students will be given the opportunity to create a project using all of the skills they have acquired in throughout the course.

While designed for use with Microsoft© Office XP, the materials in this course can be easily adapted for use with any version of Microsoft© Office. This course makes the integration of technology into the classroom truly seamless - and fun.
