7th Grade Science

by Christy McKinzie

FULL YEAR COURSE MATERIALS

This course addresses earth space science, physics, and biology. Science skills such as the scientific method, collecting, evaluating and analyzing data, and explaining scientific phenomena are taught and reinforced. Students will also access and process information from a variety of texts, use scientific skills and processes to explain the interactions of matter and energy and the energy transformations that occur, and they will analyze and display data. The labs and activities guide students step by step through the scientific method from constructing hypotheses, identifying variables, following procedures, collecting and examining data, and analyzing results. Pre-assessments are given at the beginning of units for information on students' readiness and quizzes and tests are given at the end of topics to ensure learning.

Correlated to state standards, this course is self-contained, with a student notebook that includes some short readings as well as activities and labs. A pacing guide ensures completion of all required content. Daily lesson plans offer classroom-tested teaching strategies and daily class notes (as overhead masters or in PowerPoint) support effective classroom instruction. Teachers receive a compact, comprehensive guide for each unit and lab to assure proper preparation of materials and background knowledge. Richly arrayed with creative activities, this course will support the new teacher, home-school teacher, an out-of-field assignment or the experienced teacher wishing to add additional materials to the curriculum. The following is the 1st six lessons of the 3 major units. A complete list of all lessons may be found in the sample area.
